On Saturday, February 2nd, at 4:30, the NFL HOF announced its 2008 inductees. Among them, Darrell Green (1st time on ballet) and Art Monk (finally making it after 8 tries). What a great day for the Washington Redskins. The only thing that would have made it truly unforgettable was if Russ Grimm was elected as well.
I remember growing up and watching both these players on Sunday Afternoon’s during the 1980’s through 90’s and for Green, the earlier part of the present decade. During their careers, Monk and Green were known for their greatness at their respective positions. I always remember Monk as being one of the three members of ”The Posse”. To this day, I would like to believe that ALL true Redskins fans will want to see another “Posse” on the field. I remember watching Darrell Green playing every Sunday. He was truly a fan favorite. Besides John Riggins and Sonny Jugerson, he is one of the first players I will mention in regards to the Greatest Redskins Player of all time. Back in the day when the NFL had their annual Skills Competition and Darrell Green would consistently win the fastest man in the NFL challenge. In his prime, Green ran the 40 yard dash in a unheard of time of 4.125 seconds. Being a 7 time Pro Bowl Cornerback and Monk being the all time league leader in Receptions at the time of his retirement, both of these All-Time Great Redskins, they truly belong in Canton. Congratulations!
The Redskins coaching search goes on for another week. Among the candidates this week, the rumors have it that Jim Fassel, Steve Mariucci, Ron Meeks and Steve Spagnuolo are the finalists with Fassel being the front-runner. Ron Meeks came back for a 2nd interview last week and in my opinion was bought back solely to ease the fans anger over Fassel, although, it would be nice to hear a little bit more of what Meeks can bring to the table.
The problem that I see about this whole coaching search is the fact that the Redskins have already hired their coordinators. So which ever candidate they decide to bring in (Fassel is my guess) will have to work with the coordinators that have already been hired. Lets look at the picture here- Meeks is a Defensive Coordinator for the Colts, if they hired him (which is doubtful), Greg Blache’s philosophy is thrown out the door cause you know Meeks is going to want a say on how the D is run. Steve Spagnuolo is a Defensive of guy too. He has a major task tonight to stop the Patriots in the Super Bowl. If, and its a BIG IF, the Giants were to some how stop the greatest team EVER in the NFL, he would easily become the fan’s favorite and the #1 choice for the Daniel. BUT, that will lead to more issues with Blache as being coordinator. Steve Mariucci is an offensive guy too. He has ties to the West Coast offense, as he implemented that while a HC for the 49ers, and go figure, Jim Zorn’s a West Coast offensive guy too.
So in my opinion, the likely next HC for the Redskins will be Jim Fassel. Jim was the favorite for the job before Joe Gibbs Era II began and now he is the favorite again. As a true fan of the Redskins, Fassel is going to be a decent hire, although not a “Sexy” hire. Fassel was the odd guy out in Baltimore when he got fired because Steve Bisciotti did not want to axe Billick during the season. Fassel didnt have any control of the situation there because Billick was stone solid on his offense working in Baltimore- and we know how that played out. While in NY, Fassel led the Giants to the Super Bowl and had a record of 58-53-1. He deserves another chance of being a HC and I believe he’ll get that here in DC. Be careful though, this could be a one year deal with Bill Cowher coming in next year, which will be fine with me!!

Finally 81 is in the HoF. Everyone knew DG was making it his first time, good to see them go in together.
From what I’m reading its Spagnulo’s job to lose now, unless he really f’s up the interview.

It is so great that Green and Monk got in together but this Zorn HC is a joke, we all know that this is a one and done so that Danny boy can back the dump truck up next year at Bill Cower house and say name your price. As a die hard fan I am so sick of this we as fans deserve so much better than this, it takes a couple year of a team playing together to gel and be good and we had that and what did Danny and Vinnie do well this is what hired a yes man and a coach that really is going to be Danny and Vinnies yes man , it is sad but no real good coach with any kind of right mind wants to come to DC and deal with dumb and dumber. I am very sorrry for being so negative but I am just being real and speaking my mind as you can tell I am so upset and mad at the same time hopefully I am wrong and we have a good year but I don’t see how.
